Four-types-of-SPIN-Selling-questions.png

When running a discovery call or meeting with a client there is a common and successful process you can follow for your questions called SPIN.

The SPIN discovery process in sales is a structured questioning technique designed to uncover customer needs, identify pain points, and establish the value of your solution. Developed by Neil Rackham in his book SPIN Selling, the method is an acronym representing four types of questions: Situation, Problem, Implication, and Need-Payoff. Here’s a breakdown:

1. Situation Questions

These are about understanding the buyer's current situation or context.

Tip: Keep these questions concise; avoid overwhelming the prospect with too many basic inquiries.

2. Problem Questions

These delve into identifying challenges or issues the prospect is facing.

Tip: Focus on eliciting problems that your solution can address.

3. Implication Questions

These explore the consequences of the problems identified.
